Alpha Psi was founded originally at Amherst College in Amherst Massachusetts. Its founding date is October 1, 1922. When Amherst College decided to rid it campus of fraternities and sororities, Alpha Psi no longer existed. It was called the death of Alpha Psi. Two schools in Austin, Samuel Huston College and Tillotson College decided they were going to merge and become one college. Both schools had its own chapters of Omega Psi Phi. Samuel Huston College chapter name was Sigma Psi which was founded December 8, 1930. Tillotson College chapter name Epsilon Sigma founded December 8, 1935.
On October 24, 1952 Samuel Huston College and Tillotson College merged to form Huston-Tillotson College. October 1, 1953 Huston-Tillotson College would name its chapter of Omega Psi Phi, Alpha Psi. Therefore, Alpha Psi is oldest chapter in the 9th District. Alpha Psi charter line at Huston-Tillotson College was Spring ’53 James Cooper, Isaac Robinson, Walter Stafford, Bennie Thomas, and Leo N Wright. |
